While social distancing may be the best thing for society right now, it already has us going a little stir-crazy! Combine that with the disappointment of canceled trips, and we need a little wanderlust pick-me-up. With that in mind, we’re doing a series of blogs with ways to get your travel fix from home. Today’s feature: virtual museum tours!

Even if you’re not the biggest art connoisseur, there’s a level of peace and contemplation that can only be found in museums. Nothing quite matches the feeling of standing in front of famous works of art like the Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo, or gazing in awe at the Rosetta Stone and Egyptian mummies. With coronavirus COVID-19 causing closures of museums all over the world, you may have had to cancel your own trips to the Louvre and British Museum, but that doesn’t mean you’re completely out of luck! Google has teamed up with some of the top museums around the world to create virtual tours of their collections.

If you’re needing a break from Netflix, why not go for a virtual walk around one of these amazing museums! We’ve put together our top 5 virtual museum tours, so you can get a dose of culture without leaving your couch. Just click the museum title to take your tour!

The British Museum, London

With a collection whose artifacts span the entire breadth of the once-mighty British Empire, this iconic museum located in the heart of London has something to delight everyone. Whether you’re looking for Egyptian mummies, the Rosetta Stone or even an Easter Island statue, you can find it here.

Musee d’Orsay, Paris

The Louvre may be the most famous of Paris’ museums, but the Musee d’Orsay is a close runner up! This gallery is located in a former railway station on the Left Bank and filled with a stunning collection of impressionist and post-impressionist masterpieces. This virtual museum tour is perfect for all the Monet, Manet, Renoir and Degas lovers out there.

Virtual Museum Tour

Uffizi Gallery, Florence

Since we’ve had to leave our own offices behind, why not make a (virtual!) visit to offices of another kind? There is a good reason why this Gallery’s name translates to ‘office’; because it started life as government offices under the Medici family in Florence before eventually being converted to a display space for their extensive art collection. With one of the most famous collections of Italian art in the world, this gallery is always worth a visit (even a virtual one)!

Virtual Museum Tour

The State Kremlin Palace, Moscow

This icon on the Red Square is a must-see for any trip to Moscow, and now you can explore from home! Most interesting to us is the ability to go inside the State Kremlin Palace. This building stands out as a model for modern urban Soviet architecture, and hold the largest concert hall in Russia!

Virtual Museum Tour

MASP Museu de Arte de Sao Paulo

The building itself may be what MASP is best known for, but the collections it houses are equally amazing! While its European art collection is widely recognized as the finest in the Southern Hemisphere, there’s also a large collection of Brazilian art to explore!
